Screen Guidelines
This website was made with the intent of helping out teenagers who, now during the pandemic, spend a lot of time on screens, and may have excess amounts of screentime because of school. An excess amount of time on a screen is linked with issues relating to sleep. The blue-light that screens emit can interfere with the body's natural sleep cycle. Due to this, it is important to get the right amount of sleep every night, and, as recommended by the CDC, to stay off of screens for at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
The CDC recommends that for teens between the ages of 13-18, they get between 8-10 hours of sleep at night. If you enter what time you wish to wake up in the morning, this program will give you an ideal sleep time of 8 hours before. The program will automatically notify you 1 hour before your recommended sleep time to turn off all devices so that you can wrap up anything you are working on and stop blue-light exposure before you go to sleep.
The CDC also recommends that every 20 minutes, you look away from your screen at an object 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds, also known as the 20-20-20 rule. This helps rest your eyes, and reduce eye strain by looking at a device for too long. This program will automatically alert you every 20 minutes to do so.
To use this program, you should press the start timer button whenever you get on your device. Then, put in the hour of the time you wish to wake up, and the minutes of the time you wish to wake up. Press confirm, and your sleep time will appear in the indicated box. You should press "enable notifications" to enable notifications every 20 minutes and 1 hour before your ideal sleep time.
